Matthew Sloss is TruNorth Naturals’ longest-standing team member and serves as our Lead Harvester—a role he has embodied with deep integrity and expertise since 2018. With a rich knowledge of wild fungi, and northern flora, Matthew plays a key role in stewarding sustainable harvesting practices and mentoring new harvesters in the field.
Guided by Indigenous roots and a strong spiritual connection to the land, Matthew brings traditional values into every aspect of his work. He emphasizes ethical harvesting through respect, reciprocity, and ceremony—often offering tobacco to trees before collecting from them. His bushcraft skills, deep wilderness experience, and encyclopedic plant and fungi knowledge make him an invaluable leader in TruNorth’s harvesting operations.
Matthew is known not only for his expertise but for his patience, humility, and generous spirit. He takes pride in teaching others—passing on his skills with care, clarity, and a genuine desire to help others form their own respectful relationship with the forest. Whether it’s training new harvesters, monitoring inventory levels in the wild, or navigating deep backcountry terrain, Matthew’s steady presence helps anchor our field operations.
Outside of harvesting, Matthew is a devoted father to his daughter Alexis and a loving son who helps care for his mother. Family and community are at the center of his life, and his work at TruNorth is an extension of his commitment to protecting the land for future generations.
