Branden Walley is a multidisciplinary professional working at the intersection of science, mental health, and mycology. As Director of Mycological Research & Innovation at TruNorth Naturals, he leads efforts to explore the therapeutic potential of fungi—bridging applied fieldwork with advanced metabolite research and scientific discovery.
With over a decade of experience in biochemistry, clinical research, business strategy, and fungal cultivation, Branden brings a systems-level perspective to TruNorth’s innovation pipeline. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with Distinction in Biochemistry from the University of Victoria and has contributed to groundbreaking initiatives such as the Psilocybin Substitution Project in Victoria, British Columbia.
His work in bioprospecting wild fungi on Vancouver Island—featured in Canadian Geographic—reflects his deep commitment to exploring fungal biodiversity and its medicinal applications. Beyond the lab, Branden volunteers as a fungi identification expert with community groups across Canada, advancing public education, conservation, and safe foraging practices.
At TruNorth, Branden plays a leading role in connecting traditional ecological knowledge with cutting-edge research to guide the development of science-backed, ethically sourced mushroom products. His broader mission is to integrate traditional medicine, modern science, and policy in ways that benefit both people and the planet.
